Prayers for Rain

Supplications for Rain from the Prophetic Tradition

There are numerous supplications associated with rain that believers can recite while it is falling, seeking acceptance and response. Some of these prayers are documented in the Hadith, while others are common invocations. The following are several prayers noted in the Sunnah:

  • “We have been blessed with rain by the grace and mercy of Allah.”
  • “O Allah, send down beneficial rain.”
  • “O Allah, water Your servants and animals, spread Your mercy, and revive Your lifeless land.”
  • “Glory be to the One whose praise the thunder sings, and the angels fear Him.”
  • “O Allah, let it rain around us and not on us; O Allah, let it fall on the hills, the plains, the valleys, and the places where trees grow.”
  • “O Allah, I ask You for its good, the good that is in it, and the good with which it has been sent. I seek refuge in You from its evil, the evil that is in it, and the evil with which it has been sent.”
  • “O Allah, provide us with relief, O Allah, provide us with relief, O Allah, provide us with relief.”

Diverse Supplications During Rain

Muslims are encouraged to pray for anything they desire when it rains. Here are additional supplications:

  • “O Allah, I seek forgiveness for every sin that leads to regret, brings remorse, stifles sustenance, or averts prayers. Open for me the doors of Your mercy and grant me from sources I do not expect. Illuminate my path, forgive my sins, and fulfill for me what is good for me and what I wish for.”
  • “O Allah, grant us rain that is a mercy, not rain that brings punishment, calamity, destruction, or drowning.”
  • “O Allah, purify my heart, expand my chest, bring me happiness, accept my prayers and all my acts of obedience. Answer my supplications, relieve my burdens, forgive my sins, fix my condition, ease my sadness, honor my face, make the rivers of Paradise my reward, and grant me what I desire.”
  • “O Allah, send us rain that is beneficial, refreshing, and useful, not harmful.”
  • “O Allah, I am Your servant, waiting for a near joy that will soothe my heart and bring tears to my eyes; so give me glad tidings. I ask You for healing, grant me wellness; may Your mercy spare me, and grant me peace of mind and freedom from the Fire. O Lord, I ask You by Your might, grandeur, and majesty to make my last moments come while I am prostrating before You, with my heart trembling in fear of You. Cleanse me of all my sins, then take me unto Yourself.”
  • “O Allah, I ask You, by Your might, greatness, and majesty, to fulfill my wishes and the wishes of those I love. Do not break my back; do not make my needs difficult; do not bring me challenges; do not bend my stature; make not my affliction in my faith, nor let this world be my greatest concern, nor expose to me a secret. If I have disobeyed You openly, forgive me; if I have disobeyed You privately, conceal me, and do not let my suffering be in my body.”
  • “O Allah, make the Hereafter my greatest concern.”
  • “O Allah, forgive us, have mercy on us, be pleased with us, pardon us, accept from us, absolve us, and decree that all humanity be among the inhabitants of Paradise. Be pleased with all of Your creation, have mercy on them, O Lord, shower us with Your mercy, make us among the people of Paradise, grant us victory, O Lord of the worlds, open for us a great victory, bless us with sincerity, strengthen Islam, honor Muslims, conceal us, protect us, and decree that this year be a year of opening, goodness, and blessings for us.”
