Divine Hadiths Reflecting Allah’s Mercy
Hadiths About Allah’s Mercy and Forgiveness
Numerous divine hadiths illustrate the vastness of Allah’s mercy and forgiveness. Below are some notable examples:
- The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) narrates from Allah – Blessed and Exalted – saying: “O My servants, I have forbidden injustice upon Myself and made it forbidden among you. So do not wrong one another. O My servants, all of you are misguided except those whom I have guided; seek guidance from Me, and I will guide you. O My servants, all of you are hungry except those whom I have fed; seek food from Me, and I will feed you. O My servants, all of you are naked except those whom I have clothed; seek clothing from Me, and I will clothe you. O My servants, you sin day and night, and I forgive all sins; seek My forgiveness, and I will forgive you.”
- The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) conveyed Allah’s words: “O son of Adam, as long as you call upon Me and hope in Me, I will forgive you for what you have done, and I shall not mind. O son of Adam, if your sins were to reach the heavens and then you sought My forgiveness, I would forgive you without concern. O son of Adam, if you were to come to Me with sins equal to the earth, then met Me without associating anything with Me, I would bring you forgiveness equal to it.”
- The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) reported Allah’s saying: “If My servant intends to do a good deed, I will record it as a good deed for him as long as he has not acted upon it. If he acts upon it, I will record it tenfold. If he intends to commit a sin, I will forgive it as long as he has not acted upon it. If he commits it, I will record it as a single sin.”
A Divine Hadith About Allah’s Mercy and Paradise Bliss
Allah – the Exalted – has prepared immense bliss for His faithful servants in Paradise. The Prophet (peace be upon him) narrates from his Lord – Blessed and Exalted – saying: “I have prepared for My righteous servants what no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and has not crossed the mind of any human.”
A Divine Hadith About Allah’s Love for His Servants
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) stated: “Allah said: ‘Whoever shows enmity towards a Wali (friend) of Mine, I declare war against him. My servant does not draw near to Me with anything more beloved to Me than what I have made obligatory upon him. My servant continues to draw near to Me with additional acts of worship until I love him. When I love him, I become his hearing through which he hears, his sight through which he sees, his hand through which he grasps, and his leg through which he walks. If he asks of Me, I will surely give it to him; and if he seeks refuge with Me, I will surely grant him refuge. I do not hesitate to do anything as I hesitate to take the soul of a believer; he dislikes death, and I dislike harming him.”
A Divine Hadith About Allah’s Response to Supplication
Allah – the Exalted – responds to the beliefs and supplications of His servants, which is a manifestation of His grace and mercy. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) stated: “Indeed, Allah says: I am as My servant thinks of Me, and I am with him when he calls upon Me.”

Noble Hadiths About Allah’s Mercy
The Sunnah of the Prophet contains numerous hadiths demonstrating Allah’s mercy – the Exalted – and its significant impacts. Below are a few examples:
- The Prophet emphasized that Allah’s mercy precedes His anger, saying: “Indeed, Allah wrote a book before creating creation: ‘My mercy prevails over My anger,’ and it is recorded above the Throne.”
- He also mentioned: “When Allah created the creation, He wrote in a book that is with Him above the Throne: ‘Indeed, My mercy overcomes My anger.’”
- The Prophet likened Allah’s mercy to a real incident before his noble companions, where a mother, after losing her infant child in battle, desperately searched for him among the wounded and deceased. Upon finding him, she held him close. The Prophet asked his companions: “Do you think this woman would throw her child into fire?” They replied: “No, by Allah, if she could avoid it.” The Prophet said: “Indeed, Allah is more merciful to His servants than this woman to her child.”
- Believers will enter Paradise on the Day of Judgment due to Allah’s mercy rather than their deeds. The Prophet remarked: “No one will enter Paradise because of their deeds.” They asked: “Not even you, O Messenger of Allah?” He replied: “Not even me, unless Allah envelops me in His grace and mercy.”
- Allah will rescue from the Hellfire on the Day of Judgment anyone with an atom’s weight of faith in their heart, commanding His angels: “Go and do not leave anyone in the Fire who has an atom’s weight of faith in his heart unless I remove him.” The result will be that only those without any good will remain in the Fire.
- Allah will show mercy on the Day of Judgment by releasing individuals from Hell who never did good in their worldly life. The Messenger of Allah mentioned: “Allah will say: the angels interceded, and the prophets interceded, and the believers interceded, and there remains only the Most Merciful of the merciful. He takes a handful from the Fire and brings forth people who never performed any good, and they will rise as charred embers.”
- The Prophet noted: “If only the disbeliever knew what Allah holds of mercy, no one would lose hope of His Paradise.”
- The Prophet reported that: “Allah, blessed and exalted, extends His hand at night to accept the repentance of those who sin during the day and extends His hand during the day to accept the repentance of those who sin at night until the sun rises from the west.”
- The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) conveyed: “Those who show mercy will be shown mercy by the Most Merciful. Be merciful on the earth, and you will be shown mercy from above.”
- He also stated: “Indeed, Allah, the Blessed and Exalted, when He loves a servant, calls to Gabriel: ‘Indeed, Allah loves so-and-so; so love him.’ Gabriel loves him, then he announces to the inhabitants of the heavens: ‘Indeed, Allah loves so-and-so; so love him,’ and the dwellers of the heavens will love him, and acceptance will be placed for him upon the earth.”
- Lastly, the Prophet said: “Indeed, Allah is modest and generous. He is shy when a man raises his hands to Him to return them empty.”
