Prayers for Exam Preparation

- O Allah, I ask for the understanding of the Prophets and the memory of the Messengers and the closest angels. Make my tongue frequently remember You and my heart filled with Your fear; indeed, You are capable of all things.
- O Allah, I hope for Your mercy, do not leave me to rely on myself for the blink of an eye, and guide me with Your power towards what is good for me, O Most Merciful among the merciful.
- O Allah, You for whom nothing is difficult, assist me in my studies and bless my time, effort, and strength.
- O Allah, I ask for ease and facilitation in all matters; whatever is difficult, make it easy for me, and whatever is easy, bless me in it.
- O Allah, I have dedicated my intention for Your noble face, and I seek refuge in You from the accursed devil; keep me away from his whispers and strengthen me not to falter before him.
Prayers for the Night Before the Exam
These prayers are recommended for students the night before their exams. A Muslim should ask Allah – the Almighty – for what he needs. Here are some prayers that parents can also use to pray for ease in their children’s exams:
- O Allah, Thou art the refuge of the fearful, the responder to questions, and the helper of the distressed. I turn to You in this blessed hour of the night, asking You to make its morning one of success, facilitation, and kindness.
- O Allah, make the outcome of my exam one of light, happiness, and joy.
- O Allah, You know I am facing a heavy exam; lighten its burden for me, assist me in taking it, and make it easy and gentle as I hope and desire.
- O Allah, O Provider of needs, and Responder to prayers, the paths are blocked except to You, and the doors are closed except Your door; do not leave my affairs to myself, nor to anyone from Your creation, O Lord of the worlds.
- O Allah, I entrust to You what You have taught me, and I ask You to remind me of it when I need it. My success is nothing but by Allah; upon Him I rely and to Him I return.
- O Allah, I have entrusted my matters to You, leaned my back on You, and submitted my affairs to You; there is no one to repel Your favor, nor any to withhold Your provision; there is no god but You, exalted are You; indeed, I have been among the wrongdoers.
- O Allah, the eyes are asleep, and the eyelids are closed, yet You are Alive and Ever-Watchful; nothing takes You by drowsiness nor sleep. I ask You, O Sustainer of the heavens and the earth, to protect me with Your care, and to look after me, O Most Merciful among the merciful.
- O Allah, bless me in my time, bless me in the speed of my accomplishments, and bless me in my effort and strength.
- O Allah, let this night be of righteous deeds that bring me closer to You, and may my pursuit of knowledge be a reason for Your forgiveness.
Prayers When Entering the Exam Hall
It is advisable for students to occupy their time with prayer during the few minutes before starting the exam. Here are some prayers suitable for entering the exam hall:
- (O Allah, admit me a worthy entrance, and lead me forth a worthy exit, and grant me from Yourself a supporting authority).
- (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from going astray or leading others astray, from slipping or causing someone to slip, from wronging or being wronged, and from ignorance or being subjected to ignorance).
- O Allah, I have no power or strength except through You; take my hand, O Lord of all worlds, guide me, and support me, O Most Generous of the generous.
- O Allah, I seek refuge in You from a scattered heart, a bad outcome, distracted thoughts, and loss of memory and knowledge.
- O Allah, preserve in my mind, heart, and intellect what I have studied and memorized; do not let my efforts and sleepless nights be in vain, O Lord of the worlds.
- O Allah, O Guardian of affairs and planning, manage my affairs; for I am incapable of planning.
- O Allah, bring us out of the darkness of weakness, grant us the light of understanding, and open our hearts to the knowledge of science, while improving our character with patience. Open to us the doors of Your generosity and the treasures of Your mercy, O Most Merciful among the merciful.
- O Allah, ease our affairs and make every difficult matter easy; indeed, what is difficult for You is easy, O Lord of worlds. We ask you for facilitation and well-being in this life and the Hereafter.
Prayers Upon Receiving the Exam Paper
When students receive their exam papers, it is commendable to turn to Allah in prayer after having undertaken the necessary preparations and studies. Here are some prayers fitting for this moment:
- (O my Lord, expand my chest and ease my affair, and remove the knot from my tongue).
- (O Allah, there is no ease except what You have made easy; and You can make sorrow easy whenever You want).
- (Praise be to Allah, Who has guided us to this, and we would not have been guided had Allah not guided us).
- (Perhaps my Lord will guide me to a closer path than this to true success).
- O Allah, I ask You to ease this exam for me, and make good therein for me, for You are capable of all things.
- O Allah, I have put my trust in You, and I have entrusted my affairs to You; there is no refuge or escape from You but to You; there is no god but You, the Forbearing, the Generous, Lord of the Great Throne.
- O Allah, the Gatherer of people on a Day when there is no doubt, gather me with what I have lost.
Prayers During the Exam
When starting to answer the exam questions, the student should seek help from Allah and not succumb to despair. There are prayers that can aid a student in solving questions, especially if the exam is difficult. Here are some prayers for challenging exams:
- (Say, O Allah, guide me and help me).
- O Allah, return to me what I have entrusted to You of what I have memorized, studied, and read, as I am in need of it.
- O Allah, open for me openings of knowledge and inspire me with the correct answers, and bless me in my exam time.
- O Allah, ease what I find difficult, and be my assistance with every question I read.
- O Allah, grant me firmness in my answers, and stabilize me on what is correct.
- O Allah, help me in solving the exam, and make me among those who recognize the question and know its answer.
- O Allah, bless me with precise answers and rapid accuracy in responding.
- O Allah, grant me quick understanding and guide me correctly in answering the questions.
Prayers for Forgetting Information
Students may experience forgetfulness regarding some of the information they studied due to anxiety and the pressure of the exam atmosphere. There are prayers that can help them remember if they forget what they have studied. Here are some prayers attributed to the Prophet (peace be upon him):
- (There is no god but You; I am indeed among the wrongdoers).
- (There is no god but Allah, the Forbearing, the Great; there is no god but Allah, Lord of the Gracious Throne; there is no god but Allah, Lord of the heavens, the earth, and the Glorious Throne).
- (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from worry and sorrow, from incapacity and laziness, from cowardice and miserliness, from overwhelming debts, and from the control of men).
- (O Allah, I am Your servant, the son of Your servant, the son of Your bondswoman; my forelock is in Your hand; Your decree upon me is ongoing; Your judgment about me is just; I ask You by every name that is Yours, with which You named Yourself, or taught to one of Your creation, or revealed in Your Book, or kept to Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen with You, to make the Quran the spring of my heart, the light of my chest, the removal of my sorrow, and the departure of my worry).
- O Allah, return to me what I entrusted to You of what I have studied, memorized, and read, return it to me as I am in need of it.
Prayers Upon Submitting the Exam Paper
- O Allah, seal our deeds with righteousness, and make the outcome of our affairs good, O Lord of the worlds.
- O Allah, answer my invocation, grant me my desires, and fill my heart with joy regarding my results in this exam, O Lord of the worlds.
- O Allah, I have taken the steps towards success; I have studied and strived, given what I could, and entrusted my affairs to You; do not leave me disappointed, nor deprived of Your favor.
Prayers After Exiting the Exam
After submitting the exam paper, having given it all that the student could, and done everything required, they can place their trust in Allah and seek His assistance for success and a satisfying result. Here are some prayers:
- (Praise be to Allah, Who has guided us to this, and we would not have been guided had Allah not guided us).
- O Allah, I ask You to lead me forth from this exam with integrity, just as You led me in with integrity, and You are the best protector and helper.
- O Allah, give me glad tidings of what is good for me, and make the results pleasing and deserving of my efforts.
- (And We placed before them a barrier and behind them a barrier, and We covered them over, so they could not see).
- O Allah, I ask You not to waste my efforts, and grant me good news of success.
- O Allah, I have done all that I can, and You are the Guardian of success and correctness.
