Poem: The Last Love Letter
By Ibrahim Ahmed Al-Wafi:
Pause for a moment, cease the hurt and blame
And listen to the last bird’s song in love’s game.
These are my sorrows, perhaps today I will lay them bare
On these lines—so don’t find pleasure in my despair.
Into the ear of this twilight, I cast my reflection,
And thought that love had crafted it with perfection.
I am a mirage; my love, a cloudy storm that gathers,
Neither blocking the sun nor collecting the rain’s blathers.
I am tears, and my love is a kohl-lined gaze;
Should you shed a tear, the kohl would flow in a haze.
I am a sail, and my heart’s a restless vessel,
Melodies echo, yet my ear knows no sweet detail.
Poem: Critique in Love
By Ahmed Shawqi:
They chastise me, O Hind, in love, with their blame,
A lover who, when friends are counted, is the same.
He is neither a slanderer in love’s sacred art,
Nor is he dubious in the realm of the heart.
I described to him who you are; then our talk unfolded,
A conversation peculiar to lovers, bold and beholden.
I said to him, “Patience, for each lovestruck friend,
In the hand of their beloved, shall find a way to mend.”
Poem: Boundless Love
By Nizar Qabbani:
My lady, do not occupy yourself with what’s ahead,
For my longing shall be stronger than it ever bred…
You are a woman unmatched, born anew,
In the history of roses, the verses, and the blooms of my view…
How I wish I had loved you in the age of enlightenment,
In an era of images, where passion bore its content.
How I wish we could meet one day in Florence,
Or in Cordoba, Kufa, Aleppo, or in a home’s reverence…
My lady, do not fill your heart with foreboding,
For my longing shall always be overflowing.
Poem: River of Sorrows
As expressed by Nizar Qabbani:
Your eyes are like my rivers of sorrow,
Flowing with music, drifting into tomorrow.
For your sake, I lost myself, my lady, oh my pain;
The dark tears fell, like forgotten songs in vain.
I sit crippled in despair,
My flames ignite with each longing glare.
Should I dare say, “I love you, my moonlight dear”?
Oh, how I wish, if only I were near!
Poem: The Fairness of Love
By Ahmed Shawqi:
Every lover finds their justice,
While I remain alone, enduring this sadness.
Even the one I turned to for refuge,
Said, “Why did you let love’s crazy thoughts ensue?”
No complaint worked, nor did my love’s light
Guide my heart, leaving me lost, day and night.
O Lord, decree what you have written for me,
And grant my soul just a bit of glee.
Poem: The Most Beautiful Love
By Mahmoud Darwish:
As grass grows between the crevices of stone,
One day we appeared as strangers alone,
As the spring sky composed a star—a yearn…
I made a verse of love for your eyes, what I learned!
Do your eyes know how long I awaited?
As the summer bird, tired and elated,
I fell asleep as the migrant does, what’s more,
Awakened tuned to say, oh love, let’s soar!
We are lovers till the moon shall hide,
Understanding that embraces are feasts, love, side by side.
Poem: Love’s Eternal Yearning
By Imad Al-Din Al-Isfahani:
I love you as souls crave permanence,
And I long for you like parched dreams for fragrance.
I journeyed far, yet my heart waits with patience,
Resilient against trials, committed to perseverance.
If you wish to betray, know I will remain true,
And if you break my trust, still, I’ll stick like glue.
We have landed on this fated ground together,
Your presence is my remedy, your joining my treasure.
I will wear my love like a shield of valor,
And find comfort in knowing it won’t falter.
Poem: Love in the Shadows
By Ahmed Abdel-Moati Hijazi:
My beloved comes from the countryside,
As you did once; my love came to abide.
The winds cast us ashore, hungry and bare,
So I fed him a piece of my heart in care,
I combed through his hair, making my eyes mirrors,
Draped him in golden dreams, around us, the world appears.
Life’s choices may diverge, ours would blend,
In the evening, we meet, where all differences mend.
I gaze at my beloved without uttering a word,
He came from the countryside; my heart stirred.
Poem: Love Reconciliation
By Ali Al-Dhohi:
A promise, two cups of tea, a girl who warms me,
I upset her yesterday and today, I beg her to see.
A splitting farewell and a meeting, leaving my hands in doubt,
Should I wave to her gently or extend in greeting?
“Stay here,” I said, “let your troubles take rest,”
While longing reveals intentions is its own quest.
She drinks from the tea while I taste her charms,
I start her tales of poetry, while love heals with its balms.
Written through whispers, that sweetness discloses,
Your lashes are my destination, your gaze composes.
Poem: Morning of Love
By Ghada Al-Samaan:
Between us grows, oh child of the winds,
This starving familiarity and that profound feeling that spins
With no name to define; among its titles, love flies,
Since I met you, joy returned to occupy the skies.
Each morning, I rise from the ashes of night,
Awakening to my voice, whispering, “Good morning, love, take flight.”
For I love everything I touch becomes radiant in light,
And because I love you, I love all men in sight.
Poem: The Ecstasy of Love
By Abdullah Al-Bardouni:
I call upon the goddess of beauty, surrounded by grace,
While my dreams ascend on wings of love’s embrace.
In the distance, meanings echo a long-forgotten song,
And praise unfurls purity within love’s throng.
With love in my mouth, a sweet melody flows,
A sacred prayer buried within my heart glows.
In the embrace of your love, I stumble, tender and meek,
For songs of desire become the food I seek.
Short Poems about Love
Here are various short verses about love:
Time may perish, but I shan’t betray your trust,
No matter how much I endure, how far I must.
I yearn for you with every lightning flash,
Or when the songbirds in the branches crash.
I soothe my heart in love, but conceal my sighs,
Yet my state betrays love’s language in my eyes.
If tears overflow, I’d say it’s a wound in my gaze,
So none shall see how lost I am in love’s maze.
Once unaware, I’ve become a fool in bonds,
Now I’m a lover, with my heart’s glow responds.
With this tale presented, I hope to share my plight,
My longing and desire, to gain your mercy’s light.
May God bless the face adorned with beauty bright,
Wherein the moon serves their charm, a glittering sight.
Amongst the charms, I find none compares,
With every exquisite smile, the branch gently bears.
Without burden, I ask for a gentle visit,
That connection shows how much I miss it.
Oh, the Princess of beauty, adorned with pure grace,
May my heart ache like yours in this lovesome space.
I journey in your eyes seeking two souls intertwined,
In those deep, soulful glances where our fates aligned.
Forgetful of the world outside us stirs,
With your essence soaring high like distant murmurs.
Even when you weep, I cherish your depths,
As I adore your shadowed face, and your quiet breaths.
Sorrow bonds us like molten streams of desire,
Wherein, not knowing, we build love’s fire house entire.
Ah, those teardrops I love, their crashing plights,
I adore the melancholy that showcases love’s rights.
Some women carry beauty, their grace is profound,
Yet become ever more graceful when sorrow’s around.
