Quranic Verses for Inner Peace
It is widely recognized that the Holy Quran encompasses goodness and grace, and that its recitation is one of the means to achieve inner peace and tranquility of the heart. This is supported by the verse of Allah, who states: “Those who have believed and whose hearts are assured by the remembrance of Allah. Unquestionably, by the remembrance of Allah hearts are assured.”
Among the various verses, there are specific ones known as the Verses of Serenity. Reciting these particular verses has a profound impact on calming the heart and promoting peace of mind. These verses can be found throughout three Surahs: Surah Al-Baqarah, Surah At-Tawbah, and Surah Al-Fath. This article will highlight these significant verses, as outlined below:
Verses of Serenity in Surah Al-Baqarah
In Surah Al-Baqarah, there is one verse that stands out as a Verse of Serenity, specifically the statement of Allah: “And their prophet said to them, ‘Indeed, the sign of his kingship is that the Ark will come to you in which is serenity from your Lord and a remainder of what the family of Moses and the family of Aaron left behind; the angels will carry it. Indeed, in that is a sign for you if you are believers.’
Verses of Serenity in Surah At-Tawbah
Two verses related to serenity are found in Surah At-Tawbah, which are:
- “Then Allah sent down His tranquility upon His Messenger and upon the believers and sent down armies which you did not see and punished those who disbelieved; and that is the recompense of the disbelievers.”
- “If you do not aid him – Allah has already aided him when those who disbelieved had driven him out, the second of the two, when they were in the cave and he said to his companion, ‘Do not grieve; indeed Allah is with us.’ And Allah sent down His tranquility upon him and supported him with armies you did not see and made the word of those who disbelieved the lower, while the word of Allah – that is the highest; and Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise.”
Verses of Serenity in Surah Al-Fath
Surah Al-Fath contains three notable verses of serenity, which are as follows:
- “He it is who sent down tranquility into the hearts of the believers that they would increase in faith along with their [existing] faith. And to Allah belong the troops of the heavens and the earth, and ever is Allah Knowing and Wise.”
- “Indeed, Allah was pleased with the believers when they pledged allegiance to you under the tree, and He knew what was in their hearts and sent down tranquility upon them and rewarded them with an imminent conquest.”
- “[The day] when the disbelievers had in their hearts zealotry, the zealotry of ignorance, so Allah sent down His tranquility upon His Messenger and upon the believers and made them adhere to the word of piety, and they were more deserving of it and worthy of it. And ever is Allah Knowing of all things.”
