Poems About Beautiful Love
Numerous poets have penned verses for their beloved, proudly proclaiming their love in front of everyone. Here are a few selections.
And My Beloved Returned
The poem “And My Beloved Returned” is by the contemporary Egyptian poet Farouk Gowida, known for his sincere and distinctive voice in modern Arabic poetry. He has composed various poetic forms, from traditional poetry to lyrical theater, contributing over 20 books to the Arabic literary world, including 13 poetry collections and three successful theatrical plays. Here are some lines from his poem:
O night, do not blame me if I departed with the day.
For the lost seagull has returned to its land… it no longer longs for the seas.
And the fingertips of time tenderly pulse,
Even the tears of yesterday are envious of my joy.
My lips embrace smiles that have long fled life’s passage until I
Never anticipated they would yearn for the return.
Light blossomed from the shadows of life, heralding the break of day.
O night, do not blame me,
For I poured the nectar of my life into your hands.
And I felt deep pain shaking me in your palms.
I’ve long cast my sorrows upon you.
Now I depart with a renewed hope.
How many hopes danced in my imagination…from afar.
And I spent my life like a child
Longing for a holiday…which holiday?
Until I saw my heart beating anew.
If only you knew she is like the day
One day, you will meet her with me…
You will see I have not betrayed you; it’s merely
My heart longing for the daylight.
I Am in Love, What Fear Is There in Love?
The poem “I Am in Love, What Fear Is There in Love?” is by the poet Abu Nuwas, a prominent figure from Iraq. He connected with the Abbasid Caliphs in Baghdad, praising some of them. He innovated urban poetry, distinguishing it from the Bedouin dialect, and his work spans several poetic forms, with his best writings being his wine poetry. Here is a selection from his poem:
I am in love, and what fear is there in love,
Nothing like my passion has ever crossed my mind.
What do I have to do with others, who reproach me foolishly,
My faith is to myself, and the faith of others is for others.
What is it to my enemies, should I visit my lady,
As though their faces are coated in vinegar?
God knows that what prevents me from visiting you,
Is but my fear of my enemies and their guards.
And if I could, I would have come to you,
Whether running or walking on my head.
And I have read a volume from your pages,
He who does not show mercy to others, shall not receive mercy.
O Love, My Beloved
The poem “O Love, My Beloved” is by the poet Nizar Tawfiq Qabbani, who began writing poetry at the age of 16. He published his first collection, “The Dark-Skinned Woman,” in 1944 while still a law student, financing the publication himself. He established a publishing house in Beirut named “Nizar Qabbani Publications.” Here is his poem:
O love, my beloved,
A beautiful poem written on the moon.
Love is inscribed on all the leaves of the trees.
It is engraved on the feathers of birds
And the raindrops.
Yet what woman in my homeland,
If she loves a man,
Is cast with fifty stones?
